It’s been a few months.
I had planned to get back into posting quickly, but as we settled into our new home and routines, it became clear we’d need more time than I anticipated. While I’ll likely post a few times between now and August, my new goal is to be back on track the first week of August—documenting our homeschool year as we figure out what truly works for us.
With the move, some of our original plans have shifted. Thankfully, the research I did before we relocated helped us get a solid start, but some things you only discover by being in a place, talking to other parents, and living life.
Originally, I had planned for a “subject-a-day” approach. It looked great on paper! But once we added extracurriculars and real life into the mix, it started to feel a little busy. So, we’re in the process of reworking our schedule to create more breathing room.
What our old weekly schedule looked like:
- Monday – Literature & Spelling (Reading together)
- Tuesday – Artist & Composer Study
- Wednesday – History of Me // Kitchen Classroom
- Thursday – Science & Math
- Friday – Nature Study
- Saturday – Kindness & Connection
Each day typically took us an hour or less, but as our extracurriculars list has grown, we’re combining similar subjects to open up more time during the week for social learning and real-life experiences.
Where we are now:
- Baby Blossom is thriving in several activities: she’s currently in Scouts (both Boy and Girl, we’ll see which one sticks), Clover Kids, and Martial Arts. We’re also planning to make the most of our local Nature Center while she’s still in the age range, and she’s shown interest in acting classes, so we may explore our local theatre when the time comes.
- Baby Root goes to Storytime at the library and will be starting a “Little Learners” dance class at the Y. We’re keeping an open mind as he grows and shows more of his own interests.
- We’re also part of our local HIPPY/Little Learners program, which includes weekly educator visits with hands-on learning activities.
- On top of that, we’ve started a small backyard garden and have a Nature Center membership, both of which we’re weaving into our learning journey.
- I’m even considering setting up a co-op with nearby friends who are also diving into homeschooling!

What’s coming next?
A lot of learning together – adjusting, adapting, and celebrating what does work.
We’re lucky to have friends locally who are also considering homeschool, and that kind of community is everything.
I plan to start sharing more of the following:
- Peeks into the Blossom & Root curriculum we love
- (Available at blossomandroot.com)
- Activity and sensory bins that tie into our lessons
- Backyard garden updates and how we use it to learn and be thankful for the world around us
- Field trips: nature centers, zoos, and other local gems
- Emotional learning and OT activities we’re using to support connection and regulation
Wherever you are in your homeschool journey – starting, pausing, restarting – I see you.
More soon from our nature-loving, book-reading, sensory-bin-splattered corner of the internet.
And I’d love to hear from you: What’s your favorite way to reset after a big life change?
