Idyllic days filled with learning and laughter.
The reality is messy, magical, and more rewarding than I ever imagined.
Join me as I navigate the ups and downs of our homeschooling adventure, exploring how Blossom and Root is helping us achieve our educational goals.
Our family consists of: Mom, Dad, Baby Blossom (4), Baby Root (2), and a few furry friends. To maintain privacy, we’ll use these pseudonyms throughout our journey.
In this post, I’ll share why we chose Blossom and Root for our early homeschooling years, and explain why I’m so excited to document these experiences with you.
We chose this curriculum for a few reasons.
- Blossom and Root is very child-focused; it is based in play and is very hands-on.
- The content is secular, which was important to us. It is very engaging, and is heavily rooted in science, and understanding the world around us – which we love. It also heavily leans into community and kindness – which is important for us as well.
- Blossom and Root is very beginner and budget-friendly. They try to ensure this curriculum can be done with minimal supplies, things found around the house, local resources, and books from the library! You can go as hard, or as easy as you want – and follow your child’s lead. We plan to spend a couple of hours a day on a subject. Even with this plan, I have us starting in August, taking the entire month of December off, and still finishing the year in May.
- As a military family, flexibility is crucial. Blossom and Root’s adaptable structure allows us to adjust our learning schedule based on potential moves or changes to our life.
- Blossom and Root has a Facebook page for their community! This makes it easy to bounce ideas off of other parents who are doing the same things as you!
- I purchased the pre-K curriculum when Baby Blossom was 2 and, while we didn’t fully implement it with her then, I absolutely loved its approach. Since then, I have worked the curriculum so many times. Now Baby Root is 2 and Baby Blossom is almost 5 – I’ve since bought the kindergarten curriculum, and I am so excited to jump in this year.
We’ve always envisioned homeschooling for our children, but the reality of what that would entail wasn’t fully clear until we began our research.
There are so many reasons I decided to share our journey.
- I would love for this to be a resource for people looking forward – and to possibly even encourage another family to leap!
- I want to use this platform to share tips and insights into the challenges and rewards of homeschooling, while offering honest reflections on our experiences.
- I hope this blog becomes a supportive community where homeschooling families can connect, share ideas, and offer encouragement.
- I also want to create a lasting record of these precious moments, capturing the unique joys and challenges of our homeschooling journey.
- I think that turning this journey into a blog will help me look at it more as a “job” to encourage consistency and accountability.
Overall, we chose the Blossom and Root curriculum for our homeschooling journey because it is child-focused, secular, engaging, and budget-friendly. We are excited to share our journey with others to encourage them to homeschool – if that’s what they want, provide tips and insights, build a community, and document our experiences.
